Dear WCSD Community,

Hello Spring! As we turn the calendar to March, we await the arrival of warmer weather, anticipating late-afternoon walks, baseball season (most of you know I am a huge Giants fan), and end-of-year celebrations! With the sight of this year coming to a close, we are focusing on plans for the 2026-27 school year. I am excited to join in all the end-of-year activities and celebrate our amazing students. Below are a few upcoming events in the month of March.

In January, the Board of Education approved the 2026-27 Instructional Calendar. Thank you to all who participated in the survey providing feedback regarding our instructional calendar. Our hope is that this calendar demonstrates the collaborative approach that balances the community needs and input from our educational partners.

Strategic Planning - March 23
On Monday, March 23, the Board of Education will convene its annual Strategic Planning Session. Our Governing Board, along with district staff and community leaders, will come together to review the action steps outlined in our District Strategic Plan. Staff will share insights into the work underway across the district within each of our four focus areas, including progress to date. The purpose of this session is to gather input from our educational partners on additional actions to continue strengthening and moving our district forward.
WCEF Taste and Toast - March 26
Thank you to all of our families who made WCEF’s Turn Up the Heat Campaign successful. We received over $170,000 in gifts and increased our participation rate to 51%. Your continuous support and generosity are extraordinary.

I am continually inspired by the generosity and spirit of our Walnut Creek community. One of the most meaningful ways we come together each year is through Taste & Toast for education, taking place on Wednesday, March 25th, in downtown Walnut Creek.

Hosted by the Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF) in partnership with Downtown Walnut Creek and Broadway Plaza, this lively celebration supports more than 3,500 students across our district. It is a wonderful reflection of what makes our community special - strong schools, engaged families, and local businesses working together for the benefit of our children.

Guests can look forward to delicious bites from local eateries, refreshing beverages, live music, and student performances across multiple stages, and special showcases including the Las Lomas High School Art Show and Woodshop Exhibit. It’s an evening filled with connection, creativity, and community pride.

Most importantly, every ticket purchased directly supports vital programs funded by WCEF at our schools - including art, music, science labs, electives, and library programs. These programs enrich the educational experience for every student and would not be possible without the partnership of our community and WCEF.

I encourage you to join us, celebrate our schools, and invest in our students' success. I look forward to seeing you there. Tickets can be purchased here.
Spring Break - March 30-April 3rd
Finally, we will end the month with spring break. I hope you make plans to enjoy some fun, relaxing time with your friends and family.

Have a wonderful month of March. Thank you for your partnership.

Warm regards,
Marie Morgan
