Dear Walnut Heights Families,
I sincerely hope that you are enjoying your first few moments of summer break. I’ll bet many of you have been spending your days at the pool or are anticipating an upcoming family trip.
As we look forward to the coming school year, there are some important things that you can do this summer to help your child avoid the “summer slip.”
· Read a variety of genres of books this summer and engage your child in meaningful conversations around these texts.
· Encourage your child to write. Your children can keep a journal or diary of your summer travels and adventures, send emails to family members or send postcards from vacation spots.
· Practice math facts. Flash cards for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division can between heats at swim meets or in the car on the way to camp.
I look forward to meeting and welcoming all of our new families and catching up with all of our returning families in August. Have a wonderful summer.
