Welcome to PALS Level 1

In Level 1 there are two multiage classrooms of kindergarten and first grade students taught by Ann Elliott and Steve Malton. Ann and Steve have been partners in the PALS program for over ten years and work closely with other teachers in the program. Students have two years with the same teacher before moving on to Level 2.

Students arrive together at the beginning of the day. First graders stay for a full day. Kindergartners go home at lunch except for one day per week when they have art, PE and music.

In a multiage classroom, children work in a variety of different groupings. We work with individual children, small groups and the whole group at different times throughout the day.

The Walnut Creek School District's adopted curriculum, standards and benchmarks are closely followed. Instruction is differentiated to meet student needs in our multi-age classroom. Because children differ in experiences and background, they do not learn the same things at the same time in the same way.
