Your Board and How it Functions
Five Walnut Creek citizens are elected to serve overlapping terms. They are elected at-large by the registered voters in Walnut Creek. The Board functions as the legislative body of the school district and establishes policies by which the school district is operated. Programs and policies are governed according to laws and regulations as set by the Constitution of the State of California, State Education Code and California Administrative Code, Title 5. Board Meetings
The Board shall hold regular meetings twice a month on the first and third Mondays at 7:00 p.m. at the District Office according to the posted schedule. (Walnut Creek School District Office, 960 Ygnacio Valley Road)
Notices of all meetings, both regular and special, are posted at the District Office, 960 Ygnacio Valley Road, in advance of the meetings. All meetings are open to the public with the exception of “Closed Sessions,” which may be held to discuss confidential personnel matters, matters pertaining to an individual student, labor negotiations and legal matters. Special meetings are open to the public; however, only business for which the meeting was called can be discussed.
Placing an Item on the Agenda
Requests for an item to be placed on the agenda shall be in writing and submitted to the Superintendent or designee with supporting documents and information, if any, at least a week before the scheduled meeting date. The Superintendent determines whether the request is or is not within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board and will determine whether the agenda item is appropriate for discussion in open session or closed session of the Board.
